My favorite art piece I've made...

Well, before this year, I had a lot more free time! In my free time I would draw, paint, make jewelry -- whatever I felt like doing! If I was bored, I would create. Trips to Michael's were everything! Ha! Anyways, a little over a year ago, I saw some really cool portrait drawings that were made with markers. I hadn't ever worked with markers << besides color coding my class notes and doodling on my syllabi (syllabus'?) >>. So, I went to Michael's and I bought five Prismacolor markers in various shades of gray. I figured gray would be a good starting point, considering I had no clue what I was doing. Anyways, with my new markers and some leftover mixed media paper, I was ready to go. I decided to start with a picture of Notorious B.I.G. for my brother. Since I didn't have colored markers, and I had a certain look in mind anyways that didn't involve color, I opened up the picture on Photoshop, played around with some different effects and filters, and ended up with a "posterized" pic of Biggie, that used only 4 different colors, or grays in this case. I printed it out, put tracing paper over it, and did my best to trace in a way that created areas on his face where those 4 different grays were. Kind of hard to explain but the final product should give some insight. I used transfer paper to get the blobs very lightly lined out on the mixed media paper for me to start filling in. Using my new markers was SO fun and weirdly therapeutic. I went on a posterized-grayscale-celeb-marker-drawing binge for like, 3 months. Not actually, but pretty much! I loved doing them so so much. I actually started to have so many, and so little room for them, that I semi-figured out how to set up an Etsy page, and put my drawings up on there. I sold a few...one through Etsy and others through friends! I've lost momentum, and time, to keep up with it, so it's by no means up to date or brand!

But, anyways!!! My favorite piece of art (or collection of art, I guess) is my Biggie drawing, and all of the other marker drawings I've done. Hopefully I will have more free time soon and can get back in the habit of being creative just for fun!
